Dear all, as you may be aware I have been working on my more technical foto aspects of late. The plan is to give a bit more image quality to my work.his has included working with more off camera flash. I have been learning retouching from a book called Light it, shoot it, retouch it, by Scott Kelby. It is great as you can download images from his site and step-by-step retouch. I am hoping that if I learn lots of different skills I can bring them all together to create a more individual style rather than being limited to my current skills. Obviously, basic photo taking is the real issue but I think this will take its own time to improve.
On the film side of things, I have bought my 1st Kodak XTOL mix dev. The reason I went for this one is that it seems to give a smaller grain with Delta 400. It was fun making up 5 litres of developer in a bucket I use to wash my car! I have some special bottles to store them that squeeze down to keep the air out. They reckon the dev will have a 6 month shelf life…

Hi all, I have been working some more on the technical side of photography, mainly lighting and retouching. I bought a reflector ages ago and today was the first tine I actually used it in anger!
Dear all, just a quick one to say last night my self processing had a massive breakthrough! I tried inverting the tank to agitate (10 seconds at the beginning of each min developing then a tap to remove bubbles) instead of twiddling the twiddle stick. And Booom! I am now able to process black and white as good as the expensive lab! Hooray! I am delighted as I am no longer a film moron (oh the shame ;)
STOP TWIDDLING.

After my last shoot (blurred) I was desperate to get some shots in that were in focus! I was also keen to try a studio-style shoot. As I don’t have a studio, I had to make do with my white livingroom wall, plus my YN560 strobe. That poor strobe was put through its paces at around 280 shots on full power before it called time due to overheating ;)
Well done to Jo for all her great efforts today and yesterday when she made this dress!
I guess I better save for some studio lights!
dear all, thanks for the kind comments on my lady of the lake photos. Both are not sharp :( esp the one with the pink moss. I am kicking myself. Thats the thing with manual focus lenses, it is a skill. The quality I get with a prime is way better than my kit lens zoom. Anyway, I have another shoot tomorrow :) Same model, but this time we are going for a fashion/studio/arty style. The joke is I dont have a studio. But my livingroom walls are white and I have a flash, so how hard can it be right??? LOL! As usual, I will be posting the carnage. I will also be looking to bring out the mamiya for some colour film poses, but we will see…. happy shooting all :)
